Demodesk vs Skylar: Coaching From Real Calls or Trainer-Owned Client Programmes?

Demodesk is an AI meeting assistant that records sales conversations, updates the CRM and coaches reps from what was actually said. Skylar is built for coaches, trainers and training companies delivering one methodology across separate client engagements. Here is how to choose.

Short answer: choose Demodesk if an internal sales team wants coaching built from the calls its own reps have already had, with CRM updates and follow-ups handled automatically. Choose Skylar if you are an independent sales coach, trainer or training company delivering one methodology across several client programmes, where practice has to happen before anyone speaks to a customer.

Both products use AI so that coaching is not limited to the hours one manager can spend listening. They start from opposite ends of the conversation.

Demodesk starts after the call. It captures what happened, writes it into the CRM and coaches from the transcript. Skylar starts before the call, inside a programme a trainer has designed for a specific client.

If the people you coach are on your payroll, read the Demodesk sections first. If they are your clients, skip to Skylar.

The table is not a scorecard. The two products answer different questions. One asks how a company coaches the reps it employs. The other asks how a coach delivers one method to five clients who each sell something different.

What Demodesk is built for

Demodesk describes itself as an AI meeting assistant and AI sales agent platform. On its own account it records sales calls, updates CRMs, coaches reps and drafts follow-ups, and it captures online, phone and in-person customer conversations rather than video meetings alone.

That capture story matters. A team whose pipeline runs through phone calls and site visits can lose coachable material when those conversations are not captured. Demodesk positions its capture across all three channels.

The workflow half deserves credit on its own terms. Recording a call is useful. Recording a call, writing the outcome into the CRM and drafting the follow-up is a different proposition, because it removes admin a rep would otherwise do badly or not at all. For an internal sales operation, that is often the part that gets the tool adopted.

Demodesk’s coaching layer

Demodesk’s AI Coach and AI sales coaching pages position coaching around feedback on recorded sales conversations, with custom scorecards and coaching plays.

Two things are worth pulling out. Custom scorecards mean the standard can be yours rather than a generic template, which is the difference between a tool that grades talk-to-listen ratio and one that measures whether a rep ran your discovery framework. Coaching plays suggest feedback is meant to turn into a repeatable action, not just a score in a dashboard.

The pages we reviewed describe coaching from conversations that have already happened. They do not describe simulated AI roleplay against a practice buyer. That is what the published material shows, not proof that no such feature exists or is planned — if rehearsal before live calls is a requirement for you, ask Demodesk directly and get the answer confirmed in a demo.

The practical consequence is straightforward. Coaching from real calls needs real calls to exist first. That is fine when a rep has a full diary. It is harder for a new starter in week one, for a team entering an unfamiliar market, or for anyone about to make a high-stakes call they have never made before.

What Skylar is built for

Skylar is built for the other job: delivering training as a business.

If you are an independent coach or a training company, your method is the product. It has to survive contact with several markets in a quarter without being rebuilt from scratch each time or watered down along the way.

Skylar gives coaches, trainers and training companies one place for courses, resources, client-specific AI roleplays, assessments, progress tracking and reviews of real conversations. The sales trainers page covers how a programme is assembled: your framework stays constant, while the products, buyers, scenarios and objections change with every client you sign.

There is also a constraint that trainers hit and internal managers never do. Coaching from recordings of real customer conversations depends on getting access to those recordings. A coach working across client organisations frequently cannot — and, given the consent and data-protection work involved, frequently should not want to. Practice conversations sidestep that entirely, because no customer is in the room. We wrote about how this works alongside live delivery in how sales trainers add AI practice to workshops.

Pricing, integrations and security

Pricing. Demodesk is one of the more transparent vendors in this category, and that deserves saying. Its pricing page publishes Capture from €25 per user per month, Coaching & AI from €49, custom Enterprise pricing, free viewers and a 14-day trial. Treat those as the published starting points and verify billing cadence, seat minimums, what each tier includes and tax treatment directly with Demodesk. Skylar does not publish a price list; scope and price are agreed directly. Ask both vendors the same questions — what the term is, what counts as a billable user, and what sits outside the base package.

Integrations. Demodesk’s integrations page says it connects to CRM, calendar, video, dialler and sales-engagement tools, and its published integration pages name Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Google Workspace, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, Slack, Aircall, Salesloft and Outreach among others. For an internal team, that is a serious sales-stack footprint. Treat a named logo as a starting point rather than a guarantee: confirm what a connection actually covers, which direction data flows, and what implementation involves. Apply the same discipline to Skylar — bring the systems your delivery depends on to the scoping call.

Security and data. Demodesk states that it is GDPR-native and ISO 27001 certified, using ISO 27001:2022 wording, and publishes a Trust Center at security.demodesk.com. Its public homepage also describes EU-only data hosted in Azure Frankfurt, two-step consent with a notetaker announcement, configurable retention, role-based access and audit logging. For a European buyer with a recording tool in scope, that is a detailed published position worth reviewing. These are Demodesk’s own statements, so do the normal work: read the Trust Center documents, the data processing terms and the retention settings, and confirm they meet your legal requirements. Hold Skylar to the identical standard and expect written answers.

The view from a training business

If training is what you sell, you ask questions an internal sales manager never has to. Can I run six client programmes at once without them bleeding into each other? Do my clients see my brand? What happens to a client’s content and data when the engagement ends? Can I reuse my method next quarter without rebuilding it?

Demodesk does publish a route for partners. Its partner page describes Solution Partner and Integration Partner programmes, covering referrals, integration building and a stated recurring-revenue share. If your business model includes recommending tools to clients and earning from it, that is a real, documented option and more than many vendors offer.

What the reviewed page does not establish is white-label delivery or a trainer-owned product spanning several client accounts. A referral relationship and a delivery platform you run your own programmes on are different things. Describe that gap accurately: it is undocumented on the published pages, not confirmed unavailable. If it decides your purchase, ask Demodesk directly.

It is also worth being fair about the overlap. A training company working with one large client might reasonably see that client adopt Demodesk for its own call capture and CRM workflow, while the training company runs its programme alongside it. Rehearsing before customer calls and coaching from the calls that happened are not competing activities. They cover different halves of the same problem.

Who should choose Demodesk?

  • The people you coach are your own reps, not clients of your business.
  • You want coaching built from what reps actually said to customers, judged against your own scorecards.
  • Phone and in-person conversations matter to your pipeline, not only video meetings.
  • CRM hygiene is a real problem, and automatic updates plus drafted follow-ups would remove admin your reps skip.
  • A published price you can budget against beats a demo-led quote, and a 14-day trial suits how you evaluate tools.
  • Named connections to Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Teams, Zoom, Slack, Aircall, Salesloft or Outreach matter to your rollout.
  • You are an EU-based buyer and EU-only data residency, ISO 27001 certification and configurable retention are on your requirements list.
  • You are ready to own the recording notices, consent flows and legal review that any capture platform requires.

Who should choose Skylar?

  • You are an independent sales coach, trainer or training company, and the people practising are your clients rather than your colleagues.
  • Your methodology is the product, and every roleplay and assessment has to teach your framework.
  • Each client needs practice built around their own products, buyers, scenarios and objections.
  • You run several client engagements at once and need one method to hold across all of them.
  • Reps need to practise before live customer calls, not only be reviewed afterwards.
  • You cannot get access to your clients’ real customer recordings, or do not want the consent burden that comes with them.
  • You want courses, resources, roleplays, assessments and conversation reviews in one programme instead of four tools.
  • You want workshops to become ongoing programmes with evidence of progress the client can see.

Does Demodesk do AI roleplay?

The official Demodesk pages we reviewed describe AI Coach as feedback on recorded sales conversations, with custom scorecards and coaching plays. They do not describe simulated AI roleplay against a practice buyer. That is what the published material shows rather than a statement about the roadmap, so confirm directly if rehearsal before live calls is a requirement.

Demodesk publishes Solution Partner and Integration Partner programmes covering referrals, integration building and a stated recurring-revenue share. The reviewed page does not establish white-label delivery or a trainer-owned product spanning several client accounts. That is a gap in the published material, not evidence the options are unavailable — ask Demodesk directly if it decides your purchase.

Which is better for sales coaches and training companies, Demodesk or Skylar?

Skylar, if you are training clients rather than colleagues and one method has to travel across separate engagements. Demodesk is the stronger fit when one company wants to coach its own reps from recorded conversations while automating CRM updates and follow-ups.

Can Skylar keep my methodology consistent across different clients?

Yes. That is the design. Programmes are built around your methodology while roleplays are made client-specific, so your framework and assessment criteria stay fixed as the products, buyers and objections change with each engagement.

Does Skylar publish pricing?

No. There is no public price list. Scope and price are agreed directly.

The short answer

Demodesk is the stronger fit for an internal sales team that wants coaching drawn from the calls its own reps have already conducted, CRM workflow automation, a published sales-stack integration approach and a documented EU data position. Skylar is the stronger fit for a coach or training company carrying one method across several client programmes, where practice has to happen before the customer call rather than after it.

If that second description is your business, see how trainers run client programmes in Skylar, browse the Sales Coach Hub for the wider picture, and talk to us about what your first client programme would look like.
