Short answer: if your organisation wants AI roleplays, video learning and LMS delivery in one platform for its own people, Synthesia Roleplay Sessions is a strong fit. It is especially good for an internal enablement team that wants templated scenario building and SCORM delivery. If you are a sales coach, trainer or training company carrying one method across separate client engagements, Skylar is built for that.

Both tools let salespeople practise with an AI buyer and get scored feedback. The difference is who runs the practice. Synthesia’s public pages describe an organisation training its own learners. Skylar is built for the trainer who trains many teams.

What is Synthesia Roleplay Sessions?

Synthesia is best known for AI video. Roleplay Sessions brings its Interactive Avatars into practice.

Synthesia calls them enterprise-ready roleplays. A learner practises a conversation, gets live coaching and a score, and can see how they improve across attempts. The product is pitched at sales, support and manager training.

That is the main draw. If your team already makes training videos in Synthesia, roleplay now sits in the same place.

Synthesia’s sales roleplays cover the full cycle

Synthesia’s sales roleplay page names cold calls, discovery calls, objection handling, negotiations, renewals and expansion conversations.

The avatar can question learners and push back as a buyer. An AI coach then scores the call against the organisation’s own sales-skills rubric and gives personalised feedback.

So the scoring follows your rubric, not a generic one. For an enablement team with a defined sales process, that matters.

Building and sharing roleplays in Synthesia

The Sessions documentation gives three ways to create a roleplay: through an Assistant, from a template, or as an AI roleplay activity inside a Synthesia video.

Creators can set the avatar, situation, persona, skills, rubrics, score weights and objections. Synthesia recommends three to six objections per roleplay.

Delivery is just as flexible. You can share a roleplay through the Learner Portal, a direct link, an embed or a SCORM package. The Learner Portal handles assignments and tracking.

One detail is worth knowing. Synthesia’s SCORM documentation notes that LMS reporting and Learner Portal reporting are separate. If you plan to report through your LMS, check that the workflow gives you the data you need.

Synthesia pricing and security

When we checked the Roleplay Sessions page on 15 October 2026, it listed three plans:

  • Free, £0: 10 shared sessions a month, with instant scoring and coaching.
  • Learner Seats, £20 per learner seat a month, billed annually: unlimited learner sessions, a learner portal, assignments and analytics.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing.

Prices change, so check the page before you budget. A free tier and a published seat price make it easy to try.

The same page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 42001, GDPR compliance and SSO/SCIM. These are Synthesia’s own public statements. If you or your clients have strict requirements, ask Synthesia for the detail.

Skylar is built around the trainer’s method

Skylar starts from the other side of the table. It is made for sales coaches, trainers and training companies that use one methodology across many client engagements.

For each client, you adapt the context: who the buyer is, what is being sold and which objections come up. The assessment criteria stay the same. Reps are judged against what you taught them, whichever client they work for.

That matters when you work with five clients selling five different things. You should not have to rebuild your method each time. You only change the world around it.

Established training firms can also white-label Skylar, so clients see the practice under the firm’s own brand.

The real difference: who owns the practice

Synthesia’s public pages describe one organisation training its own learners. The company builds the roleplays, sets the rubric, assigns the sessions and tracks the results. That is a clean model for an in-house team.

The pages and documentation we reviewed do not describe a trainer, partner or white-label workflow. That does not mean Synthesia cannot support one. It means the public material does not say. If you are a training company, ask Synthesia directly how it handles separate clients, your branding and running many engagements at once.

Skylar puts the coach in charge from the start. You carry one method across many client engagements and keep it consistent. The people practising are your clients’ reps, not your staff.

Choose Synthesia Roleplay Sessions if

  • You run an in-house enablement or L&D team training your own people.
  • You want roleplay, video learning and distribution in the same platform, or you already use Synthesia for training video.
  • You want templated scenario building, with control over persona, rubrics, score weights and objections.
  • You need to deliver through your LMS via SCORM, or through a link, embed or learner portal.
  • You want roleplays across sales, support and manager training, not sales alone.
  • You want a free tier, a published seat price and published security statements to show your IT team.

Choose Skylar if

  • You are a sales coach, trainer or training company and want a product built around delivering your own method to client teams.
  • You need one methodology across separate client engagements, with buyer, product and objection context adapted for each.
  • You want assessment criteria that stay consistent with your framework.
  • You want to deliver practice under your own brand through white-label delivery.
